Asylum – Developer Diary Day 53

August 25, 2014

Unity 4.6 (beta) is now available. And so it was time for me to pick apart the current GUI implementation I have in Asylum and replace it with the super sleek Unity UI. This was more involved than I expected as it adds a new event based system that I wasn’t expecting. Previously it was… [Read More]

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 52

July 6, 2014

Continuing the modelling of various parts of the courtyard area, and also researching the creation of trees for the centre piece in the courtyard. Things are progressing a little slower than usual as I get back into the swing of things. I also want to try out something new so I might put Asylum on… [Read More]

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 51

June 22, 2014

Today marked the return to Asylum development after a 2 month break to move house. Because it had been quite a long break I’ve used today to  refresh my memory on what I was doing and where I’d got. A recent upgrade to an HDMI monitor has shown me that the lighting in the Asylum… [Read More]

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 50

June 21, 2014

Now that I’m all settled in my new home it’s about time I got back to Asylum development. So, I’ve been updating my 3d software, unity and a number of other things in preparation. All being well I will continue work tomorrow. One thing I will be doing is waiting for Unity 4.6 to be… [Read More]

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 49

April 6, 2014

With moving day fast approaching work on Asylum has been slower than normal. Over the last couple of weeks, since the last update, I’ve been working on the other visual elements of the courtyard; the stairs to the main doors (main doors aren’t done yet), the roof segments, windows on the opposite walls with grime… [Read More]

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 48

March 9, 2014

Grabbed an hour or so to continue the development of the courtyard. Improving the lighting and adding in the dummy floors (locations the player will not be accessing on this map), including the railings and back wall so that the lightmapper can work it’s magic.

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 47

February 16, 2014

There is probably going to be a break in development for about a month shortly as I prepare to move house. This weekend I had to remodel the courtyard area because texturing it as an entire set piece was causing too many problems. Triangulation was going a bit weird causing the texture seams to distort.… [Read More]

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 46

February 9, 2014

This weekend I’ve been rather busy looking at houses (to move into) with little success, so Asylum development didn’t get much of a look in. However, I did model up the main walls for the courtyard which is visible along the walkways between the mens and womens wing. The courtyard will be the first chance… [Read More]

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 45

February 2, 2014

Lots of little tweaks and changes this week. First up I released that my game plan for this floor was slightly flawed. There was one section the player would need to get through without first getting the torch that would be in total darkness. So that needed to be altered slightly. Not overly difficult as… [Read More]

Asylum – Developer Diary Day 44

January 25, 2014

Short dev diary this week thanks to Natwest for screwing up meaning I had to do a load of banking to try and fix their idiocy. Anyway. Another couple of furniture objects have been added to the reception room; telephone (doesn’t work, there’s no dial tone) and a water cooler. There was also a strange… [Read More]
